The Emergency Data Distribution Networ ( EDDN ) adds an independent GOES DCS reception and distribution system to complement the NESDIS Wallops Island Facility. The antennas, receivers, and servers are located at the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science ( EROS ) facility located near Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA.
The EDDN was designed with these principles:
- Easy integration into the current data distribution environment
- 24/7/365 availability
- Usable as a secondary source of data for the recovery of bad transmissions
Data messages are received directly from the GOES satellites as well as the DOMSAT satellite. The messages are processed and stored in the internal LRGSs, lrgseros1 and lrgseros2. Internal USGS data consumers will use these servers as a primary source for data.
The data is forwarded to the EDDN's public servers, lrgseddn1, lrgseddn2, and lrgseddn3. These servers are available to registered public data consumers as approved by NESDIS.
